Recognise the importance of energy displays, says Onzo.

Onzo, a leading provider of domestic energy displays, has commented on the report by the House of Commons Business and Enterprise Select Committee into the energy market, published today. The Committee estimates that for every 10 percent increase in fuel prices, 400,000 additional people fall into fuel poverty, and so argues that the government must now consider a fundamental re-think of its approach to tackling the problem. Onzo believes one answer is increased awareness about the energy household appliances actually use, to allow individuals to see the real differences they can make in their household bills.
According to Joel Hagan, Chief Executive of Onzo, “double-digit rises in fuel costs emphasise the need for consumers to be given help by suppliers to understand how they use their energy and how they can cut back. More people are slipping into fuel poverty as power costs rise but it is not enough merely to complain that they are increasingly finding it hard to pay their bills. Appropriate and user-friendly devices that empower the consumer to manage energy use are vital tools. It is crucial the government recognises their importance and encourages their introduction. They are highly important weapons both to combat fuel poverty and to reduce the output of energy which is essential as part of the campaign against climate change”.

• Fuel poverty is said to occur when in order to heat its home to an adequate standard of warmth a household needs to spend more than 10 per cent of its income on total fuel use.
